The weekend of September 17 – 19th in Cleveland, Ohio was a big deal. Why, you ask? That is the weekend the Ohio Hip Hop Awards Music Conference invaded several venues around the city with different events and performances, with the main event taking place at Dream Nightclub (2325 Elm St; Cleveland, OH)          on Saturday September 18th.  There were several influential people that came out to support the Awards, including celebrity guest speakers, panelists, and major industry representatives. Not only was the event successful from the beginning, it was successful in putting Ohio one step closer in getting the full-blown national attention it deserves in the hip hop scene. Want just a taste of what I’m referring to? Let’s recap!
Friday September 17th was the official kickoff of the Ohio Hip Hop Music Awards, at Earth Nightclub that started promptly at 9PM, and was the official welcoming party of the weekend. This was successful in allowing all of the guests, performers, and nominees from all over the state and the nation to meet and greet each other in a “non-competitive” environment. The next day, on Saturday September 18, the main event took place at Dream Nightclub. Complete with a Red Carpet Reception that started at 4PM, the show went hard all the way to the official after-party that took place at not just one, but two different Cleveland venues! The award show is what brought the majority of the record executives and celebrities out, along with a long  list of performers. The performers included: Jola (So-So-Def), Britni Elise, Erica P, Status Flo, Gotta Hustle, Da Kennel, Desi, Ms. Nikki, Freeway Boys, Anthony Anderson, and many more! With guest appearances by the legendary Bizzy Bone, formerly of Bone Thugs N Harmony, Lady ReRun, and Bone Crusher himself coming to show Ohio hip hop some love! Starting at 9PM, folks began to migrate to either Anatomy (1299 West 9th St; Cleveland, OH) or The View (618 Prospect Ave; Cleveland, OH) to celebrate their newfound collaborations, networking successes, and awards.
The last day could have been arguably one of the most important. On Sunday September 19th, the Ohio Hip Hop Awards official “Learn to Earn” Music Conference and Talent Showcase took place at Earth (1295 Old River Rd; Cleveland, OH), and served as the artist’s chance to have lunch, mingle, and get key business insights from members of the industry themselves!  Here is the extensive list of industry visitors who came to support our artists: Kevin Shine of Jive Records, Amir Windom of Atlantic Records, Laronn Harris of Atlantic Records, Drew Rives of Def Jam, Next of Amalgam Digital, Young Riot of Amalgam Digital, Bigga Rankin of CTE Records, Ron Spaulding of Universal Fontana, Tony Franklin of Universal  Fontana, and Terrel Taylor of Noviac Music. Along with these visitors, others included: Janie Jennings of Industry Works/ Core DJ’s, Colby Colb of Radio One, Eddie Bauer of WJZE, Adam Favors of Interscope Records, Five the General: UMA Titan of the Year Winner, DJ Blazita of Thatshiphop.com, UMA DJ of the Year, and Pam Mercer of Warner Music Group.
The event itself was not the only thing special about the weekend, as the Ohio Hip Hop Awards & Music Conference was also celebrating their Fifth Year in existence this year! And as with any other successful event, it grows larger every year. If you’re impressed by the list of performers and record executives who paid a visit to our awards this year, imagine what next year will bring! The OHHA (for short) extends a huge CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners, and a Thank You to all of the visitors, supporters, performers, and sponsors. The sponsors include: BeatMama.com, Ballers Choice, Red Bull, Vitaman Water, and
thadoubleo.com. We couldn’t have done it without you! For a complete listing of all of the award winners, check us out at www.OhioHipHopAwards.Com. And last of all, keep your eye on us and come visit next year; you don’t want to miss out again!
