‘Tunnel Vision’ Returns to YouTube
The video ban on JT’s newest single is lifted from YouTube.
YouTube and Google have a strong history of banning videos quickly and swiftly. When it comes to controversial material from musicians, they have an obligation but sometimes artistic expression goes beyond just algorithms. With Justin Timberlake’s newest single, ‘Tunnel Vision’ off of the 20/20 Experience became a perfect example of that.
After initially yanking the video quickly after it surfaced, it looks like the tech giant has gone back on their algorithmic banning approach.
“While our guidelines generally prohibit nudity, we make exceptions when it is presented in an educational, documentary or artistic context, and take care to add appropriate warnings and age restrictions,” a YouTube representative said in a statement, via E! Online.
Google has come under fire in the past for their “un-biased” approach to certain situations. With this reversal, we may see the flood gates open with more and more content that comes with the explicit warning. “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring Pharell and T.I. definitely proves these videos can be highly successful.
JT embarks on a summer tour with Jay-Z that kicks off July 17 in Toronto to promote this first album in seven years.
